Rehearsals:

Generally, we meet once a week to practice.  We have meetings once a month. We usually slow down over the summer.

Membership:

If you see us on the street, we are always open to folks coming up and playing with us.  If you want to get more involved, please e-mail us at blo@brassliberation.org and someone will get back to you.  B.L.O. is prioritizing new members of color and folks with solid musical skills.  B.L.O. is open to all musical levels.

To Invite the BLO to an Event or Action:

Please email us a description of the event or action.  We generally need at least two weeks advance notice to make a collective decision and logistimasize our brassiness. Please make sure to include the following information:

  1. Who is organizing the event/action (w/ contact info) ?
  2. What is the cause being advanced and/or the purpose of the event?
  3. What is the history of the event?
  4. Legal issues: Is the event arrestable? Has a permit been obtained?  Have the organizers communicated with the police in advance?
  5. What is the role and leadership of people of color in connection with the event?
  6. What is the level of involvement of the relevant communities?
  7. What would BLO’s role be at the event?  Will other musical groups be playing?  Will there be a sound system (helping to lead people in chants)?
